Apple's secures the trademark for Passbook, however, it is not clear that this will help it defend itself against Ameranth's claims of "willful infringement" ofer Passbook patents.
Ownership of the Passbook trademark may give Apple some protection against any competitor that attempts to mimic Passbook, however.
The application was filed on 27 June, reports Patently Apple, suggesting that there was a delay in processing the request.
Apple has also filed for the Passbook trademark in Europe in September.
Earlier in October Ameranth sued Apple for patent infringement for the Passbook ticketing system. Ameranth claims it owns the patents to technology used by iOS 6's new Passbook feature. Ameranth is seeking triple damages due to Apple's alleged "willful infringement," of the patents.
