Apple has donated $2.5 million to American Red Cross for those affected by Hurricane Sandy, which recently battered America's east coast.
9To5Mac reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out an email to employees last week, informing them that it has donated a sum of $2.5 million (£1.57 million) on behalf of all of its employees to help recover from the devastation that Hurricane Sandy left behind.
The email reads: "For the past week, our thoughts have been with those affected by Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath. And Apple employees and customers the world over have raised millions of dollars toward the relief effort so far. But we can always do more."
"That's why, on behalf of all our employees, Apple is making a donation of $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Sandy relief. We hope this contribution will help families, businesses, and communities recover and rebuild," Cook wrote.
Apple had previously set up a donation page in iTunes, so that users could donate directly to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy support, and the company says Apple customers donated millions to the charity.
