Fri, 27 Jun 2008 Mr Site Takeaway Website Pro Review
Online service offering an ideal entry point for small business websites
- Manufacturer: Mr Site
- Pros: Step-by-step workflow, domain, hosting and design tools included
- Cons: Not much hosting for your money, old-fashioned-looking templates
- Price: £99 (£7.99 per month renewal)
- Star rating:
Our review copy of Mr Site Takeaway Website Pro arrived in a box. This is unusual because it’s not desktop software at all; it’s an online service. A more succinct name for the product might be Web Hosting for Newbies because that’s what it offers; a complete web-hosting and site-building service, complete with your own domain name.
There are two versions – we received the Pro version. The sign-up process is straightforward. The box contains an activation password that you use to log in to www.mrsite.co.uk. You’re prompted to fill in some personal details, then pick a domain name (or use one you already own) and after a few minutes you can begin using the tools to build your site.
The site-building interface leads you through the step-by-step process of constructing a web presence. At stage one you pick a design, stage two add pages, and so on. The process leads you through adding content, publishing the site and configuring Extras. The latter includes e-commerce tools, in-depth customisation options, blogs, guestbooks and SiteBoost search-engine optimisation.
The package itself is decently specified for a small business start-up. There’s half a gigabyte of storage space, 50 configurable email addresses and ‘unlimited bandwidth’. It’s so incredibly easy to use that it’s doubtful you’ll ever need the printed manual that comes in the rather pointless box.
