Roxio Releases Retrospect 8.2 for Mac
Faster Performance, Streamlined Workflow, and Retrospect 6 Archive Support
Santa Clara, California, (27 July 2010) — Roxio®, a division of Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), today announced the availability of Roxio Retrospect® 8.2 for Mac, a key update to the company’s backup and recovery software that allows small and midsize businesses to efficiently protect critical data stored on Mac, Win dows, and Linux servers, desktops, and notebooks. Retrospect 8.2, the first release since Roxio took over the product line in May, delivers as much as three-times faster network backup performance, adds 64-bit addressing to enable the backup of volumes containing tens of millions of files, and includes user interface enhancements that simplify workflow and management tasks.
Another major feature included in Roxio Retrospect 8.2 for Mac is the ability to restore from backups created with Retrospect 6. This feature addresses a key request from users who wanted to upgrade to the Retrospect 8 platform, but didn’t want to manage and maintain a version 6 install in order to perform restores of older archived backups.
“Retrospect 8.2, the latest addition to the Roxio product family, is a significant product update that provides users of previous versions with a very clear and straightforward upgrade path to the vastly superior architecture and performance of version 8,” said Matt DiMaria, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Roxio. “With more than two decades of field-proven expertise, millions of users worldwide and a price point that’s a fraction of other solutions, Retrospect 8.2 is ideal for individuals and businesses looking to quickly and efficiently protect critical data.”
First introduced in 2009, Retrospect version 8 was redesigned from the ground up with a state-of-the-art interface, a powerful core engine, and a range of new features and enhancements. Positioned between Apple’s Time Machine and enterprise-level backup applications, key capabilities of the Retrospect 8 product line include:
· The ability to perform multiple, simultaneous backup, restore and copy operations
· Backup-to-disk features that include support for local and network disk systems
· True disk-based backup staging for future transfer to tape or portable media
· Simultaneous streaming of data to multiple disk or tape storage systems
· Advanced custom reporting and email notifications
· Certified AES-256 encryption of backup data
· Advanced network clients with support for multiple network interfaces and a wake-on-LAN feature to wake sleeping computers for backup
Roxio Retrospect products are a key component of Roxio’s comprehensive line of commercial applications targeting small to medium sized businesses. These solutions include Roxio Creator® Enterprise for media creation and management in the workplace, and the Roxio Secure product line, an end-user-friendly family of applications that enable organizations to enforce policy compliance and safeguard against data breach. Press Release - Hi-Fi maker selects apt-X® for Stereo Bluetooth input
Mon, 26 Jul 2010
Hi-Fi maker selects apt-X® for Stereo Bluetooth input
Chord Electronics selects apt-X enabled Bluetooth A2DP connectivity for Chordette range of high-end audio modules for expandable Hi-Fi systems
Belfast, Northern Ireland: APTX, the high-performance audio coding company, announces today that Chord Electronics Ltd., the renowned British manufacturer of high-end audio equipment, has included apt-X® in every Stereo Bluetooth enabled module in the company’s recently launched Chordette range of compact Hi-Fi components. Available under license agreement to consumer electronics OEMs and mobile computer OS developers, apt-X audio coding ensures that the performance of wireless audio systems, such as Bluetooth, truly facilitates the precision reproduction of the full spectrum of audio frequencies (20Hz – 22kHz) required for a genuine Hi-Fi sound experience.
apt-X makes Hi-Fi systems Bluetooth-friendly
Chord implements apt-X in four of nine new Chordette modules – PEACH, GEM, MAXX and TOUCAN BLUE – to guarantee both the stereo quality and signal integrity of wireless audio content streaming from diverse types of Bluetooth A2DP enabled media players such as Apple iPod, iPhone and Mac, as well as PCs, mobile phones and gaming consoles. Hi-Fi users typically prefer listening to music archived in high-definition uncompressed and “lossless” formats (eg, FLAC) rather than highly-compressed “lossy” formats (MP3, AAC).
Commenting on the deployment of apt-X in Chordette modules, John Franks, CEO of Chord Electronics said: “The PEACH – the next-generation DAC module in the Chordette range – is designed to interface Hi-Fi systems to digital audio sources streaming high-quality stereo audio via Bluetooth A2DP. For true Hi-Fi sound, Stereo Bluetooth really needs apt-X.”
Game-changer for Stereo Bluetooth
Noel McKenna, CEO of APTX, said: “These are extraordinary times for apt-X in several respects. First, there’s the healthy uptake of apt-X by more and more consumer audio brands, both the mass-market types and niche pro-audio high-ends like Chord. Second, there’s the up-lift in brand awareness of apt-X thanks the growing number of CE products carrying with the apt-X logo now selling via major electronics retailers like Amazon and Apple Store. Third, and not least, there’s the turnaround in industry respect for Stereo Bluetooth as the go-to wireless technology for streaming high-quality audio.” Back in January, APTX, together with Creative, won the “Best of CES” Bluetooth SIG award at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas for the Creative Inspire S2 Wireless 2.1 speaker system featuring apt-X.
The Chordette range comprises the following modules: the Chordette TOUCAN BLUE is an apt-X enabled Stereo Bluetooth headphone amplifier; MAXX is an apt-X enabled Stereo Bluetooth high-power amplifier; PEACH is a 4-input high-performance DAC (apt-X enabled Bluetooth, USB, coaxial SPDIF, optical TOS-link); and GEM, a standalone DAC featuring inputs for apt-X enabled Bluetooth and USB. The remaining modules in the identically-styled, frame-mountable Chordette line-up includes two high-spec power amplifiers (SCAMP and DUAL), a low-noise cartridge pre-amp (PRIME), a dual headphones amp (TOUCAN), and a compact Windows 7 media PC (MOGUL).

Press Release - skobbler launches free sat nav for Google Android phones

skobbler launches free sat nav for Google Android phones
Berlin, Germany, 16th July 2010 - skobbler, creator of the first free turn by turn sat nav app for the iPhone, has today announced the launch of skobbler for the Google Android platform.
Featuring a new user interface and enhanced visual appearance, skobbler sat nav for Google Android is available for download immediately, is compatible with most Google Android mobile phones and above all is FREE.
Since the UK launch of skobbler for iPhone just 4 weeks ago, skobbler has been downloaded more than 82,000 times by iPhone users in the UK. It has sat comfortably at the top of the UK free navigation app chart for four weeks and reached No. 10 of the most popular free apps in the UK app store overall, demonstrating just how popular mobile phone navigation is becoming . “Developing skobbler for the Android platform was the next logical step for the company,” says Marcus Thielking, co-founder of skobbler. “Our goal is to show that the revolutionary OpenStreetMap (OSM) concept can already support great location-based services, even in the most complex category which is definitely car navigation. Developing our unique OSM-based apps for the most popular mobile platforms has always been part of our ongoing strategy. We are looking forward to the feedback of our Android customers and hope that they will embrace the idea of a nationwide (if not worldwide) collaborative mapping project just as much as iPhone users have done already. We look forward to seeing what we call, ‘the future of sat nav’ become a reality, making expensive GPS hardware and slow, costly map updates a thing of the past.”
skobbler is a sat nav solution that empowers consumers to take matters into their own hands and make outdated and poorly detailed maps a thing of the past. It uses community maps from OpenStreetMap (OSM), the Wikipedia of maps that already has over 250,000 users worldwide dedicated to updating and creating the most detailed free map of the world. As a result, all users benefit from consistently updated maps without paying for expensive and already out-of-date updates.
-ENDS-
Availability and compatibility:
skobbler is free, is compatible with most Google Android mobile phones and can be downloaded from the Android Market.
You can find further information on recent developments at http://blog.skobbler.com.

Press Release - Master the green with Neon Play’s iPhone game Golf Putt Pro
Wed, 14 Jul 2010
Master the green with Neon Play’s iPhone game Golf Putt Pro
Mobile games studio, Neon Play, has launched its latest addictive iPhone game onto Apple’s App Store, promising hours of putting fun and friendship issues.
Golf Putt Pro can turn any iPhone user into a putting genius or short-game loser. Up to four friends can compete to head the leaderboard. Watch friends fallout over the simplest of shots.
“It’s so simple and addictive anyone can pick it up within minutes. The only downside is that the multiplayer mode may lead to blows as friends get over competitive,” said Oli Christie, managing director of Neon Play.
Priced at 59p ($0.99) Golf Putt Pro is launched hot on the heels of Neon Play’s highly successful game Flick Football, which reached the UK Top 10 for both paid and free versions.
The attraction is simplicity. Golf Putt Pro is beautifully simple, yet highly addictive. Players
tap the ball when the moving arrow is at the correct angle for the slope of the green. The ball then follows the chosen trajectory to glory or failure.
“With the British Golf Open being played at St. Andrews, we hope players will be inspired to emulate their heroes,” added Christie.
There are four game modes in the game:
1. THREE LIVES - you have three chances to miss the putt. Consecutive putts give you a multiplier.
2. IN A ROW - it’s a game of sudden death where you have to putt as many consecutive balls as you can.
3. PRO - this is for really hard-core players. The golf hole moves to different positions and the arrow moves a bit faster.
4. 18 HOLES - a fantastic mode for up to 4 players all competing on the same device. Take it in turns to putt your balls and see who’s the winner.
The game also has live global leaderboards, plus you can play against your Facebook friends and post your scores to Twitter and Facebook.
· Golf Pro Lite coming soon - Coming soon, there will also be a free version of the game with the IN A ROW game mode, enabling players to enjoy the basic version of the game.
Please let us know if you would like to review the game as we have download vouchers

Press Release - skobbler iPhone navigation exceeds 72,000 downloads in just three weeks
Mon, 05 Jul 2010
skobbler iPhone navigation exceeds 72,000 downloads in just three weeks
Revolutionary navigation concept underlines the increasing popularity of mobile phone apps for in-car navigation
Berlin, Germany, 5th July 2010 - skobbler, creator of the free sat nav app for the iPhone, has announced today that since its UK launch just three weeks ago, the skobbler navigation app has been downloaded more than 72,000 times, surpassing the launch success achieved in the company’s native country, Germany, a few months ago.
To put this figure into perspective, a total of 266,000 PNDs were shipped into the UK market in Q1 2010, according to industry analysts Canalys. With the similarity in service offered, it’s fair to put these figures into context, which leads to the astonishing fact that skobbler’s 3-week-volume equals 27.1% of all UK PND shipments in the first quarter of 2010. A fact that may well serve as an example for both the increasing popularity of mobile phone apps for in-car navigation as well as the revolutionary navigation concept of skobbler in particular.
skobbler has sat comfortably at the top of the UK free navigation app chart for three weeks, and reached No. 10 of the most popular free apps in the UK app store overall, only being beaten by a few top-notch games and World Cup related apps such as the Vuvuzela.
“We are only just getting started in the UK,” says Marcus Thielking, co-founder of skobbler. “It’s early days and to have experienced such success in such a short amount of time is quite overwhelming and encouraging. It demonstrates again just how popular mobile phone navigation is becoming.” In several ways, the skobbler concept is a no-brainer for end-users: there’s no initial outlay for expensive GPS hardware, map updates are more frequent and free for life, and there’s no need to carry around additional devices. “We are over the moon that so many users have already embraced the community-driven collaborative OpenStreetMap project that our app is based on, and are very encouraged that the concept will continue to evolve into the future of sat nav”, adds Thielking.
Since its launch, skobbler has been busy working closely with its customers through lively exchange with its forum members on the skobbler website, listening to customer feedback in order to constantly develop skobbler according to its customers’ needs. In fact, users can already expect a major update in the coming days in which several enhancements to the system have been made as a result of customer feedback. Among other aspects, the update will dramatically enhance the visual appearance and stability of the app as well as offer full compatibility with Apple’s new iOS4 firmware.
The new user interface will also be part of a brand new Google Android version of skobbler which will be launched in the UK over the coming days. “We’re pushing with full force to continue delivering lightning-fast cycles of free updates with significant improvements. Only a brilliant framework like the app store makes such a high frequency of updates possible – which is just another major asset of smartphones versus other device categories,” explains Thielking.
skobbler is a community-driven sat nav solution that empowers consumers to take matters into their own hands and make outdated and poorly detailed maps a thing of the past. It uses community maps from OpenStreetMap (OSM), the Wikipedia of maps that already has over 250,000 users worldwide dedicated to updating and creating the most detailed free map of the world. As a result, all users benefit from consistently updated maps without paying for expensive and already out-of-date updates. skobbler is available to download for FREE at the UK App Store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skobbler-uk-ireland-lite-truly/id374083118?mt=8.

"They played game after game and I had the proof then that Splash Duel HD really was a truly immersive game."
Get ready for some dynamic aquatic battles!

Press Release - DASCOM GB Introduces New Serial Dot Matrix and Flatbed Printers
Thu, 01 Jul 2010
DASCOM GB Introduces New Serial Dot Matrix and Flatbed Printers
New TallyDASCOM printers offer high performance and low running costs
DASCOM GB, developer, manufacturer and provider of enterprise printing solutions, today announced five new additions to its printer range, with the introduction of three flatbed printers, TallyDASCOM 1318, 1325 and 1430 and two serial dot matrix printers, TallyDASCOM 1125 and 1225. The printers have been specifically designed to provide high performance document printing for today’s busy front and back office environments with the long life ribbon of the printers (7 million characters) meaning fewer ribbon changes, less downtime and lower running costs.
The TallyDASCOM 1318 (9 pin, 80 column), 1325 (24 pin, 80 column) and 1430 (24 pin, 106 column) flat bed printers, with print speeds of 240, 375 and 450 respectively, provide high quality output, an easy to use control panel and the option to use pre-cut or tractor fed paper. They offer a compact footprint specifically designed for front office applications where space is limited, such as in retail outlets, travel agents, train stations, banks and doctor’s surgeries. The printers all have versatile paper handling with the ability to deliver reliable paper transport printing invoices, receipts, reports and multi-part forms.
The TallyDASCOM 1125 (24 pin, 80 column) and 1225 (24 pin, 136 column) serial dot matrix printers are solidly built, with a small footprint and provide up to 375 characters per second print speed at 10 cpi. They are ideal for industrial environments and front and back office applications to enable the printing of low volume listings and reports, as well as dispatch notes and labels. Amongst the lowest priced matrix printers available today, these serial dot matrix printers are also a viable alternative to low cost inkjet printers for draft printing due to their considerably less expensive running costs.
“Today’s fast paced business environments require accurate printing day in and day out, and office space is usually at a premium,” said DASCOM GB’s Managing Director, Robin Edwardes. “TallyDASCOM printers offer unmatched dependability, performance and low running costs, and the small foot print of these latest printers meet the furniture requirements of our customers.”
