Simon Jary - I know F-all about Apple

Mon, 31 Jan 2011

Nothing polarises Apple Fanboys more than the Apple versus Microsoft argument. For so long marginalised as the pitied minority platform, users of Apple hardware and software defended their honour by slavishly worshipping the company and demonising its arch nemesis Microsoft.

While many hold similar views, it is the rabid anti-PC warrior who is most worthy of the title Apple Fanboy. I like Apple products, admire the company and its haloed leader Steve Jobs, and have distrust of Microsoft borne from its years of anti-trust lawsuits, ruthlessly monopolistic business strategies and shameless copying of the Mac OS – but I’d hate to be labelled an Apple Fanboy. You have to revel in the sobriquet to be a real Apple Fanboy and an undying love of the company must be foremost in one’s mind at all times.

Andy Ihnatko - A new breed of OS X

Thu, 20 Jan 2011

While I was on Wikipedia doing some vital research (I was right, Plastic Man has no internal organs) I reminded myself that 2011 is an important anniversary for the two Apple products that made Apple what it is today (most essentially: not a subsidiary of Sony or Adobe). Mac OS X and the iPod were both released 10 years ago.

Mac OS X in particular is the product that saved Apple: it prevented Apple’s whole Ponzi scheme from collapsing. Yep, put a few drinks into even the most ardent Apple supporter and he’ll admit that he promoted the virtues of the Power Macintosh 8110AV with the same desperate, hollow vim as that uncle of yours with a garage full of water filters. Apple had become a pyramid scheme. We’d sunk so much of our enthusiasm and hopes into the Mac OS and gotten so little in return that the only way to keep ourselves afloat was to do whatever we had to in order to bring in another wave of suckers.

Jonny Evans: Collected: Apple's busy diary for 2011

Tue, 04 Jan 2011

Apple's [AAPL] gearing up for a busy, busy year in 2011. We're already expecting the iPhone 5 and iPad 2.0, we're looking forward to the Mac App Store and more. So what events and product releases might feature in Apple's 2011 schedule?

I've looked into my tea leaves, done some educated guessing and mulled over typical Apple release patterns to create an almost completely fictitious diary for Apple's 2011. Don't bet your investments on this work of fiction (I'm not claiming any inside view here, it is all based on open speculation), with these caveats in mind I'd like to invite you to sit back and enjoy the ride:
