iPod sex sells
Wed, 23 May 2007
Who'd have thought such an innocent poster could cause so much fuss.
I'm referring, of course, to our Ann Summers iPod sex toy story
This was picked up by Drudge Report and immediately caused a ruckus on our server. We got 25,000 new hits straight away, another 35,000 over the following hour and are up to 100,000 new readers with no sign of slowdown.
The Drudge Report has been known to bring down The Economist and The Mirror, so it's a testament to our web team that you're still reading this.
Still, at least we know what the general public wants: iPods and lingerie.
Well you asked for it...
Editors note: We finally got a quarter of a million new readers in 24 hours from just the one story. Result!

Ann Summers needs to keep a low profile with Apple. The iPod ad lookalike doesn't help.
The Ann Summers logo has a very familiar look to it and you know what Apple are like when it comes to defending their logo.
I know that the Ann Summers logo is supposed to be a cherry with a bite taken out of it, but it does look uncannily like another logo.

Hehe. Nice work Mac Fellas on withstanding the traffic flood. The *really* funny thing is that not only did Ann Summers get, er, inspired by a www.lovehoney.co.uk iBuzz product, they aped the iBuzz advertising right down to the snotty letter from Apple's legal team - more info here and elsewhere: sextoysinsider.com/ibuzz/apple-has-a-pop-at-ibuzz/
Shame (for us at least) that the droogs at Drudge didn't pick up on that too!
