Thin Steve Jobs
Fri, 15 Aug 2008
It kinds of amuses me that everyone’s so worried that Apple CEO Steve Jobs looks ill.
He steps onto stage looking like his lost a bit more weight and all havoc breaks loose. Recent speculation about his health even caused Apple’s share price to take a plunge.
Thing is, Jobs says he battled with cancer and won, and that might just mean that he did. All these fears that his looking thin and that probably means that he is ill again could be an overreaction.
I reckon Jobs is thin because (a) he is a vegan and (b) because after life saving surgery on your pancreas you’re probably going to have to be careful about what you eat. The pancreas is the organ that produces the enzymes you need to break down a lot of the food you eat – in particular carbohydrates, protein and fat. If your pancreas has taken a bit of a beating you’re probably not going to want to make it work too hard.
I reckon Jobs is on a special diet. He’s been ill and he wants to remain healthy. If he looks like his lost weight then that’s probably what’s going on. It doesn’t mean he has cancer again.
As someone who has recently found out that they can’t eat wheat and dairy I know what it’s like when you have to be careful about what you eat for the sake of your health.

It's not just Steve Jobs who gets criticised for not being fat like most other Americans.
They've also been accusing Barack Obama of being too thin to be a credible president.
( I would post a link if I were allowed to, but there is a detailed article on the Times web site- article #4428699 )
In both cases it's a fuss about nothing. There is a wide variance of weight that could be regarded as normal. There are several well known reasons why SJ is lean, principally to do with his strict diet and having had a Whipple operation.

Karen, look up "Whipple Procedure" on the web. This will explain Steve Jobs' condition. By the way, it's "he's" and not "his" in the second and fifth paragraphs of your blog.
