How to turn your iPhone into a Game Boy Original
Tue, 26 May 2009
They say nostalgia isn't what it used to be and while we may sometimes appear to be drowning in a sea of retro tat, one recent addition to the nostalgia business did catch my somewhat jaded eye.
'Monochrome', the work of US company Infectious and graphic designer and illustrator Michael Sison - Mikey Ion to his friends and admirers – is a skin which promises to turn your iPhone into a 20-year-old Nintendo Game Boy Original.
The design comes complete with fake red buttons and a D-pad, while an iPod touch compatible skin is also available.
As a child of the 1960's and a big child of the 1990's, I still have a Nintendo Game Boy Original stuffed away somewhere in the big junk drawer that I call home. It occupied many a happy hour, time probably spent better elsewhere, but it was a vast improvement on playing Pong on a busted old TV.

Monochrome by Michael Sison.
Released in Japan and North America in 1989, and Europe the following year, the Game Boy and Game Boy Color combined went on to sell a staggering 118.69 million units worldwide.
Now for your $14.99, around £10 plus shipping costs, Infectious will send you one full sized piece of iPhone art for the back, one small front piece of iPhone art for the front and one Infectious logo.
The sticking process apparently takes around five minutes "plus potential trimming to fit time for PC owners" and requires only the one pair of hands.
For those yet to capture the nostalgia bug, Infectious offers an artistic range of cool and contemporary skins for iPhone, iPod touch, classic and nano.
