Apple CEO Steve Jobs was aware that he had cancer for nine months before sharing the information with investors and employees.

CNN reports Jobs was aware he had pancreatic cancer for months before seeking treatment, and none beyond an inner circle of confidantes at Apple were aware of the problem.

The report explains that Jobs, skeptical of mainstream medicine, sought a cure in alternative medicine before electing to have the cancerous tumour removed. While the cure was successful, pancreatic cancer is considered one of the most deadly forms of the illness.

It seems Jobs and his inner circle debated whether there was a need to reveal his problem to shareholders. Instead, Apple let employees know of his successful treatment the day after it was conducted, in an email despatched on 1 August 2004.

However, CNN reports that while the form of cancer Jobs contracted is treatable, "the vast majority of those who underwent the operation survived at least ten years".
