UK public-service television broadcaster, Channel 4 plans a short season of 3D programming this autumn as it teams with a major supermarket to distribute 3D glasses.

Channel 4 and Sainsbury's will offer the special glasses so viewers can watch a series of special programs including Derren Brown's 3D Magic Spectacular, The Greatest Ever 3D Moments, and The Queen in 3D,

Channel 4 will use low-cost ColorCode technology, which reportedly looks fairly normal without 3D glasses for the tests, but gains depth when viewed through amber and blue filters.

Freeview, satellite and cable channel Virgin 1 will air an episode of hit US comedy Chuck tomorrow night - Tuesday 25 August - also using the same technology, with ColorCode glasses distributed in copies of TV & Satellite Week magazine.

i remember going to the cinema 45 years ago and watching a film through "ghost veiwer" specs that were given before the film when it came on screen(every 15 min or so) to don the glasses we were supposed to be screaming at the ghosts.

Once TV manufacturers have sold HD and Full HD to death, they are bound to want to move onto 'the next thing' which has got to be 3D. I doubt very much if blue and red glasses will play a part in any successful technology though.

Wazabee.net seem to have a technology (special screen overlay) that shows 3D on a Macbook and iPhone.
