While it isn't yet official, reports suggest the Palm Pre smartphone, sometimes compared favourably with Apple's iPhone, will launch in the UK on Friday 30 October.

Website Phones Review claims O2, who has exclusive rights for the Palm Pre, has told UK staff to prepare for a late October release date.

Both the Palm Pre and Apple iPhone share the same mobile phone operator in O2, although O2 may yet loose exclusivity to sell the iPhone before the Palm Pre goes on sale in the UK.

Website Mobile Entertainment claimed earlier this month to have seen documentation stating that O2 will officially end its exclusivity to sell the iPhone on 9 October.

O2 has the rights to sell the device until 2012; but its period as the exclusive seller is only for two years.

Orange and T-Mobile have been widely tipped to join O2 as UK networks supporting the iPhone.

Why would anyone want an iPhone? The Palm Pre has multitasking, is faster, uses better Flash memory and is an open platform?

How can O2 have 2 of the top phones exclusive to them. Which one do they push more?? Hopefully Apple will move the iphone to another network!!!

I work for o2 and as we don't earn commission on ANY phone we sell, we don't push any of them lol!
