Etymotic Research, a leading developer of noise-isolating, high-fidelity earphones and headsets, has launched the hf2 custom•fit headset with partners Advanced Communication Solutions (ACS).
For 15 years, ACS, has worked to supply, develop and manufacture products that protect the hearing of people whose livelihoods depend on working in dangerously high sound levels.
Now the two are to combine to offer Etymotic’s multi award winning hf2 headset, with customised in-ear monitors from ACS that promise to provide reference-quality fidelity and a comfortable fit at safe volume levels.
Along with the headphones, buyers receive a voucher redeemable at any one of 300 approved ear impression outlets. A short appointment includes having the impressions taken, these are then sent away to be crafted into customised in-ear monitors.
The unique selling point is these are crafted only for your ears, so the fit is perfect. You can then enjoy music at lower levels as much of the outside noise, experienced using traditional headphones particularly, has gone.
Potential customers can find the nearest ACS registered ear impression outlets by entering your town or postcode here.
The hf2 custom•fit also includes an array of ear tips of different sizes that comes as standard with the hf2.
The hf2 was awarded Best of Show by iLounge and iPhonematters.com at Macworld 2008. Since then it has won nine more awards, including a Macworld Editors’ Choice Award.
The hf2 is the only headset nominated for our 2009 Macworld Awards in the iPhone Accessory of the Year category.
The Etymotic hf2's cost £99 and the custom•fit will be available from 28 April 2009.
On Thursday, 30 April between 2pm and 6pm, Etymotic Re will be at the flagship Apple Store, Regent Street to showcase the hf2 custom•fit.
The Apple Store is located at 235 Regent Street, London, W1B 2EL, 020 7153 9000. The nearest tube station is Oxford Circus.

Having been a user of Etymotic Phones with custom ear moulds (made by ACS) for more than 10 years, I can confidently say there is nothing to compare with listening to music this way.
