Apple has already selected and certified components such as the backlight module and light bars for the iPad 3, according to a report.

Digitimes claims that the process of certifying components for the next-generation iPad is already well underway, with Radiant Opto-Electronics being chosen to provide LED backlight units.

However, the certification of panels is still a work in progress, with Chimei Innolux expected to get the nod soon.

Citing anonymous sources in the industry, the report rubbishes claims that Apple was looking to Samsung to provide AMOLED panels for the iPad 3 and said that the next-generation tablet will use 9.7in LCD panels like its predecessors.

The sources expect the iPad 3 to go on sale at some stage in 2012, though didn't specify further. There had been rumours earlier this year that the iPad 3 could arrive as early as September.

There has also been some speculation that the iPad 3 could have a 3D display.
