Apple CEO Tim Cook was recently seen visiting the headquarters of video game designer Valve, leading to speculation that Apple is working on a television set with voice-control and a touch-screen remote, which will come with Apple's very own game console.
That's according to Cult of Mac, who claims to have been told by sources: "Apple is planning a full-on assault to take over the living room". (More below)
The report suggests that Apple is working on a television set with an iTunes-integrated touch screen remote and Siri-like voice command technology. Sources told Cult of Mac that the television would launch by the end of 2012.
If that's not enough, the sources also claim that Apple's television will come with "An Apple-branded, Kinect-like video game console. The interface will rely heavily on motion controls."
Apple's rumoured smart TV has been hot topic for several years, but has yet to make an appearance. Walter Isaacson's authorised biography of Steve Jobs revealed that Jobs had been involved in plans for an Apple television set.
"He very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant," Isaacson wrote.
"'I'd like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,' he told me. 'It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.' No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. 'It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.'"
