Jefferies analyst Peter Misek thinks Apple is about to unveil its smart TV at WWDC.

In a note to clients Misek, who back in April suggested that Apple’s rumoured television should be called iPanel not iTV, stated that Apple may surprise WWDC attendees by unveiling a smart television that will launch in the second half of 2012

Misek even claimed that companies including AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom are already testing Apple’s HDTV in their labs, according to BGR’s report.

Misek believes that Hon Hai has begun production of the Apple television.

Back in April, Misek predicted a Q4 introduction of iPanel. He claims that his Asia supply chain sources expect “commercial production in May/June with 2M to 5M builds likely.” He also noted the recent investment in Sharp by Hon Hai (parent company to Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn).

I have no doubts that this would be awesome so long as they don't price themselves out of the market. Its always nice to have that extra build quality and user experience that you'd associate with a 'premium' product but they could very easily find themselves offering a product that nobody would be willing to shell out for when they already have a perfectly good TV sat in their living room.

Of course, Apple might very well have stumbled upon something so utterly new and ground breaking that it couldn't possibly fail...but if its just another TV with iTunes attached to it then maybe not. I can already do that by buying the current generation Apple TV and connect to any of the TV sets I already own.
