High street stores Currys, Dixons and PC World will both stock Apple's iPad at launch across 139 UK outlets it has been announced. The deal done with electronics retailer DSGi, will treble the number of outlets the iPad will available from come Friday's launch, and hopefully make it easier to find an iPad for those who haven't pre-ordered the device.
According to a memo to DSGi sales staff seen by The Times newspaper, the iPad will be available from 9 am on Friday in 70 PC World stores, 28 Currys shops and 22 Dixons Travel outlets, as well as 19 combined PC World/Currys stores.
DSGi has agreed a 60-day window with Apple, which will give retail stores a chance to stock the iPad two month's before rival retailers Comet, Tesco, John Lewis and the Carphone Warehouse. Apple and DSGi already have a good track record of working together to successfully promote Apple products. DSGi already operates 52 Apple concessions in stores across the UK, designed to resemble the Apple Store experience.
Apple recommends UK customers check http://www.apple.com/uk/buy/locator/ to locate a convenient retail source for the iPad.

Really? I remember going into a Dixons store, complaining about an iBook with some keys removed by vandals, and commenting to a salesperson, "Why don't you make something of Apple features like Airport?" (new at the time) ... his response?
"We haven't opened our airport store yet."
I wouldn't buy a lawnmower from DSGi ... they'll sell them soon!

Curry's I'd agree with, but my brief experience with Apple sales staff at PCWorld hasn't been bad. However that level of service may not be replicated around the country as I've heard many negative comments about PCWorlds from other areas.

good news though that there are more places to pick up an iPad
wasn't likely to make it to an Apple store on Friday due to there not being one near where I live or work
But there are big Currys and PC Worlds nearby with Apple 'Shops' within - so hopefully they'll be amongst those stocking the iPad
so much for me holding off purchasing...;)

If you just accept that Curry's/PC World stock what you want at a price you like, then where's the problem? Just don't ask a technical question, and you won't be disappointed!! :)
That's probably unfair on a few employees, but not the majority. For best advice on the high street, go to John Lewis, or an independent dealer.
