BBC, ITV and Channel 4 Kangaroo online media venture set for autumn launch
The Kangaroo online TV joint venture between the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 seems set for launch this autumn.
ITV chief operating officer John Cresswell this week said the partners hoped to launch the service in September or October.
Creswell also commented on the recent appointment of the BBC’s outgoing director of future media and technology, Ashley Highfield, who will become chief executive of Kangaroo on 1 July.
"It is going really well. Ashley's appointment is fantastic. With all new technical launches, you always have a soft launch before you unveil the whole thing," said Cresswell. "It is about making sure that when the consumer gets to it, it won't fall over. No one wants a Terminal 5 online. We are pretty confident."
Creswell also said Kangaroo is likely to see a ‘soft’ beta launch one month before the official launch takes place. The service will offer a collection of thousands of hours of content from the three partners, it’s expected to be a little like iPlayer, offering both current and classic shows.
