Wed, 11 Nov 2009 ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac now Snow Leopard compatible
Turns scanned paper documents, PDF files and camera images into popular electronic formats
ABBYY, a provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, has announced FineReader Express Edition for Mac, described as a optical character recognition (OCR) application for Apple Macs, is now Snow Leopard compatible.
First released in the summer, ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac turns scanned paper documents, PDF files and camera images into popular electronic formats such as RTF documents, XLS spreadsheets, searchable PDFs, and HTML files insists the makers.
The OCR software promises one-click conversion functions helped by an highly intuitive interface.
FineReader Express Edition for Mac delivers text recognition in 171 languages and can intelligently re-creates layout and formatting elements of the original document including tables, columns, graphics, bullets and numbering.
ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac costs £ 88.89 including VAT as is currently only available from the ABBYY Web site.
System requirements are Mac OS X 10.4,10.5 and 10.6, Intel or Power PC computer.
ABBYY notes ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac does not support scanners, cameras and fax modems that use emulated drivers. On the Intel platform, the application will only work with devices for which Intel drivers are installed.

You're probably better off with Adobe Acrobat Pro's clearscan technology anyway.
