Thu, 01 Oct 2009 Spotify extends iPhone 'Offline mode' to desktop Macs (Updated)

Spotify have also added Paypal to the list of available payment methods for users in the UK

Swedish streaming music service Spotify is to extend the popular 'Offline mode' listening mode, introduced with the launch of the iPhone application last month, to desktop Macs and PCs.

Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to select their playlists and set them to be 'Available offline' from today. The move is likely to be a bonus for anyone who finds themselves without Internet access or want to avoid costly hotel fees.

The premium ad free service costs £10 a month and is also required to run the Spotify application on iPhone and iPod touch.

In addition to offline mode, Spotify have also added Paypal to the list of available payment methods for users in the UK.

Earlier this week the company added 5,148 albums and singles to the catalogue, a total of 74,697 new tracks. Recent highlights include Mind Chaos by hotly tipped Hockey and God & Guns by the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Spotify added in a blog post, each computer will be able to store up to 3,333 tracks at a time.

"To use ‘offline mode’ you’ll need to be running the latest version of Spotify and you may have to log out and back in for the feature to kick in," Spotify's Andres Sehr added.
