- Star rating:
With large, clearly labelled buttons and a 3.6in tilting LCD, the easy-to-use PM 290 is top of Epson’s portable range.
Its looks are rather uninspiring but it has a useful carry handle and you can add a battery for true portability. However, its unique selling point is producing a 6 x 4in print in just 37 seconds.
The PM 290 is Bluetooth-equipped and capable of direct printing. It takes almost any type of media card. The printer is also PictBridge and USB-equipped (USB cable not included).
A chunky ink cassette inserts into the base at the back, while the paper slots into the top of the device. On-screen prompts talk you through the printing process. Epson’s claimed 37-second output speed actually matched our own tests. And, impressively, if you buy a 100-sheet pack, the cost per copy is just 20p.
The PM 290 delivers warm, well-saturated colours, deep blacks and crisp detail. If your budget can take it, the PM 290 comes highly recommended.
