It may be the most expensive monitor in this group, but Eizo’s SX2262W works hard to justify that price with features and image quality that will appeal to demanding professional users.

The 22in display uses what Eizo refers to as a ‘VA panel’, which is similar to the IPS panels favoured by Apple and NEC. This provides a bright image with bold colours and an impressive viewing angle that will be useful for presentation work. The bulky ‘flexstand’ isn’t exactly elegant, but it allows you to adjust the height of the screen, tilt, swivel and even pivot it around into portrait mode. There are two DVI ports and one DisplayPort connector, which allow you to connect multiple computers and switch between them, along with a built-in two-port USB hub.

Eizo claims that the SX2262W can reproduce 95 per cent of the Adobe RGB colour space and our tests confirmed that it covers a significantly wider colour gamut than most of its rivals in this group, with the exception of NEC’s P221W. That will appeal to photographers and designers who are looking for precise colour reproduction, as will the extensive controls for adjusting colour settings that are included in the onscreen menu system. Those controls also include a special sRGB mode that allows designers to focus on a narrower colour range for tasks such as web design.

The screen provides 1,920 x 1,200 resolution so it will be good for watching high-definition video. The 12ms response time is a bit below average, so it probably won’t be ideal for gamers who like to play high-speed action games, but its image quality and versatility will make it a good choice for design and photographic work. Our only real complaint is that it’s over £200 more expensive than NEC’s P221W, which provides similar image quality – albeit with a less comprehensive set of additional features.
