Mon, 15 Nov 2010 Libratone Beat review
You'll get excellent sound quality from this iPod dock
- Manufacturer: Libratone
- Pros: Excellent sound quality; FullRoom technology provides 360º sound; looks classy; solid build; simple plug and play
- Cons: Wireless streaming so no actual dock; Libratone brand has yet to be established in the UK
- Price: £549
- Star rating:

The Beat, from Danish audio specialist Libratone, is the relative new kid on the block as far as iPod docks go, relying on wireless streaming rather than actual physical docking. Compatible with iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac and PC, the Beat utilises what the company calls FullRoom technology to produce a powerful, yet never bombastic, sound.
Music and video, thankfully without the lag, are both catered for. The Beat comes with a transmitter for portable devices and a USB-transmitter for a computer that extends the wireless range up to 30m, from the claimed standard 9m. Usefully, you can decide if you want to charge your Apple device or not, while in use.

Sold in a choice of stylish colours and finished to a high standard, the Libratone Beat is, for once, a lifestyle accessory that sounds as good as it looks.
