The WD TV Live Hub has an attractive, Mac-like interface
- Manufacturer: Western Digital
- Pros: Includes 1TB hard disk; easy to set up; attractive interface
- Cons: Expensive; film rental options only available in the US
- Price: £194.99
- Star rating:
The WD TV Live Hub is one of the few media players that can rival the Apple TV for ease of use. It has a 1TB hard drive built into it for storing your music, photos and video files and automatically showed up as a network drive on our office iMac, so we were easily able to copy files across onto it.
This is one of the few media players we’ve seen that can also match the slick interface design of the Apple TV, with a colourful graphical interface that allows you to browse your music by album, artist or genre. It sports a Mac-like ‘dashboard’ too, where you can store your favourite files for quick access.
The WD TV Live Hub supports a wide range of music and video file formats, including our collection of AAC iTunes music and H.264 videos. The Ethernet port lets you connect the media player to your home network so you can stream video, view photos, and play music from any Mac, PC, or network drive in your house, and it can handle multiple streams.
