Wed, 19 Mar 2008 StudioPhile AV 40 Review
- Manufacturer: M-Audio
- Pros: Excellent sound, compact and magnetically shielded
- Cons: Traditional appearance, input ?via RCA or TRS cable, pricey for casual users
- Price: £109
- Star rating:

These compact magnetically shielded speakers offer remarkable clarity, delivering crisp sound across the acoustic range, with accurate bass and a pleasing rendition of transient notes in songs. The powered speakers offer 20W per channel. Their design reflects the perennial look of any audio speaker, a rectangular box with a main, grille-covered speaker and a bass horn on the front.
Inside they have four polypropylene-coated drivers and ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters, with digital audio technology and an internal amplifier to help faithful sound reproduction. They also offer an effective bass boost control.
What they lack in terms of cutting-edge design, they make up for in their ability to deliver excellent sound.
Naturally, given their name,
M-Audio has designed this set with
the needs of musicians in mind.
