Adobe Contribute CS5 is an easy-to-use WYSIWYG web authoring tool that makes it easy for just about anyone to create and manage a collaborative website.
New to this version are content types, collections of settings that define every aspect of a web page: its template, workflow, expiry settings and more. If you're an administrator, you can use content types to define exactly how your site should work. And when users create a new page with this content type then it will inherit all the predefined settings, so they have less configuration work to do.
Multimedia support has improved, and you can enhance your pages by dragging in images, PDF documents, FLV and SWF files. Contribute keeps track of all the dependent files and uploads them to your server when the pages are published.
It's now possible to do much more advanced editing work from within Contribute. There's built-in XML editing support, for instance, and the option to edit server-side includes. You're able to create hotspots on an image and link to another part of your site. And if an image needs more work, then you can launch Fireworks or Photoshop directly from Contribute to edit it, thanks to a new Format > Edit Image With command.
And when the site is complete you're now able to review its appearance with a speedy compatibility check. Windows users get to preview their pages in IE, Firefox and Webkit; and on the Mac, you can specify the preview in whichever browsers you might have installed.
Note: in order to download the Adobe Contribute CS5 trial you must create an Adobe account, if you don't have one already. Once you've finished you can log in and download Adobe Contribute CS5, along with any other CS5 components you might like to try.
