TeamViewer 10 is the latest release of the popular remote access/control program.
As with previous editions, you can use it to access your own computer across the internet, maybe recovering some important document you've left at home. Or you can use it to remotely control another PC where TeamViewer is also installed; so if a friend's having technical troubles, you can log on to their system, even through most firewalls, and troubleshoot the computer as though you were sitting in front of it.
TeamViewer 10 extends the program with smarter contact management, automatically finding nearby people and computers. It's able to launch video calls with a click (no need to start a meeting first), and the ability to add a profile picture gives your activities a more personal touch.
New Integration with Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Box makes it quicker and easier to share files in meetings or remote control sessions. The Whiteboard can now be used during remote control sessions (by both parties); you're able to take notes during a session, and if that's not enough, a complete chat history records the full details of all your conversations.
Corporate users will appreciate the ability to set, distribute and enforce policies from the Management Console. You can give users access to all your devices from a single master whitelist, and the Computers and Contacts API helps integrate your computers and contacts into any software.
There are also a stack of more fundamental improvements which should appeal to just about everyone: multicore CPU optimisations, better voice quality, 4K support, a BlackBerry Remote Control app and (on Mac OS X Yosemite) an integrated remote control toolbar, amongst many others.
It's a very impressive upgrade, especially as the program remains entirely free for personal and non-commercial use. Business users, however, will need to purchase a licence.
TeamViewer has always been an easy way to remotely access and control other systems, and this new release adds some very welcome improvements - especially the cloud storage integration. Recommended.
