Rob Enderle: Apple is DOOMED!

No pundit ploughs the ‘Apple is doomed’ field quite like Rob Enderle.

Enderle has predicted confidently that the iPhone would fail, that the Dell Streak would beat both the iPhone and iPad and that Tim Cook would be a terrible CEO.

“When you make Jobs’ polar opposite the CEO, it’s probably not going to work out well.” says Enderle.

Dan Lyons: from Fake Steve to real angry

Dan Lyons made his name in 2006 running the admittedly funny and likeable Fake Steve Jobs blog (which he managed to maintain anonymously for over a year). Once Lyons was outed he transformed into a pundit ninja attacking Apple and all other journalists in sight.

Lyons worked for a series of websites attacking Apple and the shills’ that work for them. Other journalists are “pretty much operating as unpaid Apple spokesbots” according to Lyons.

This ‘Steve Jobs' Reality Distortion Field Lives On’ piece much sums up a normal day on the farm for Lyons. As Fortune put it: The anonymous author of Jobs’ “Secret Diary” used to be funny. Now he’s just angry. (Actually: Lyons now works in marketing for HubSpot so it’s okay).

Gene Munster: Apple television this year for sure

Despite his growly name, Munster is actually a consistent supporter of Apple. But his oft, and repeated, insistence that Apple is poised to release a television set (in the face of increasing tumbleweed from the rest of the Apple rumor mill) earns him his place in our list.

“Every six months, Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster takes time off from praying and offering ritual sacrifices to the old gods in return for an Apple television” says The Macalope.

Munster first started making Apple Television predictions back in 2010 and has stated every year without fail that Apple is going to make a television. It’s gonna happen in 2015 Munster, honest!

Timothy B. Lee: Google is winning, no really!

Nobody at Forbes did the “Google rules; Apple drools” schtick quite like Timothy. B. Lee. See this ‘Why Google is Winning the Smartphone Wars’ or this: ‘The iPhone 5 Suggests That Without Steve Jobs, Apple Is Becoming A Normal Tech Company’.

The Macalope’s take on Lee’s “iOS has been losing ground to Android even though most people agree that the iPhone is the best single smartphone on the market” is a hoot.

Trip Chowdhry: counting the days

Apple has “only have 60 days left to either come up with something or they will disappear," said Trip Chowdhry, managing director of Global Equities Research 155 days ago.

We want an iWatch as much as the next Apple fan, but that’s a bold statement to say about a company with three times as much cash in the bank as the US government itself (currently over $160 billion).

Zach Epstein: Windows 8 is the future

Nobody bought into Microsoft’s vision of the future with Windows 8 like Epstein. The Macalope noted that: “Unlike some of the trolls … Epstein genuinely seems to believe what he writes, proving that reality distortion is not just for Cupertino anymore.”

This article ‘Sorry Apple, Windows 8 ushers in the post-post-PC era’ is a typically good wheeze. According to Epstein “Apple fans are so flustered by [Windows 8] that they resorted to bombarding Twitter with jokes about cooling fans and Silverlight.”

Demetrius Mandzych: Wake up Sheeple!

It’s perhaps a little unfair to include Mandzych among such luminaries as Enderle and Munster. He’s here for one single article. It’s a corker though.

Way back in 2011, at the height of Antennagate, Demetrius Mandzych wrote this knockout article for Byte magazine. It’s since been struck off the record by Byte, which to its credit has left the story up (but with a strike through the text).

Mandzych’s article, ‘A Sobering Look at Apple’ ticks every single box of anti-Apple paranoia known to man. If you could write “WAKE UP SHEEPLE!” and pan out into 1,000 words his article would be it.

Don Reisinger: 10 ways to be wrong

Don Reisinger made his name on eWeek writing top-tens about why Apple was doomed. There was ‘10 Reasons Why Apple's Tablet Won't Be A Long-Term Success’ and ‘10 features an Apple tablet must have to succeed.’

This was followed by ‘10 Reasons the iPhone Could Eventually Hurt Apple’s Business’ and ‘Apple’s iPad 3 Should Be Released In 2011: 10 Reasons Why.’

All this led tech website Curious Rat to write ‘2 Reasons Don Reisinger Should Stop Writing’.

Reisinger is no longer writing top-ten lists thankfully. He’s still at it though. Here’s his latest: ‘What does iPhone 6 need to restore Apple’s innovation crown? In this article he starts with: “Over the last few years - Apple has arguably lost its innovation crown. Save for the Mac Pro, which is possibly the most innovative desktop on the market right now.”

Eugene Kaspersky: Apple should allow anti-virus software on iOS

“We as a security company are not able to develop true endpoint security for iOS” says Kaspersky.

“That will mean disaster for Apple,” he opined, as malware will inevitably strike iOS in the future. We’re still waiting.
