The elite fashion labels have gone iPad-mad, unveiling ever more luxurious and beautiful cases that provide a little protection and a lot of glamour.

We take a trip to the catwalk

Vivienne Westwood iPad Holders

URL www.harrods.com   Price £139 (Logo); £129 (Tartan)

For a dramatic statement accessory, consider one (or both) of these bold numbers from Vivienne Westwood, a designer associated with the daring and new since the early days of punk. A place at the forefront of high-tech fashion seems far more appropriate than the museum retrospectives to which Westwood’s work has been subjected in latter years.

The Logo iPad Holder on the right is based on a starkly modern black logo repeated across the leather, offset by Westwood’s silver-coloured orb logo on the front. The twin zip fasteners have leather strap attachments for ease of use.

The Tartan iPad Holder, meanwhile, is a smart if slightly more subdued affair, based on a classic Westwood theme that harks back to the 1970s. It also features that regal orb motif, this time in gold.

Chloé Leather iPad Case

URL www.net-a-porter.com     Price £345

A rich blackcurrant hue and supple lamb-leather material make this iPad case a luxurious choice. There are matching tassels on the zips (the hardware is gold), a wrist strap and an internal pocket.

The case will add around 300g to your iPad’s weight – that’s about half the weight again if you’re toting an iPad 2 – but the protection and stylish looks should be more than worth the additional heft. Like many of the cases here, it could easily be mistaken for a smart handbag.

Mulberry Bayswater iPad Sleeve, Chocolate Walnut

URL www.mulberry.com   Price £270

Mulberry’s leather satchel-type iPad holder, in a colour deliciously described as “chocolate walnut”, has the flavour (not to mention elegant looks and practicality) of expensive luggage. The air of understated luxury is further enhanced by the smart ‘postman’s lock’ fastener.

We’ve grouped it with the women’s iPad cases, but this is one of the more unisex products here; gentlemen-about-town are also sure to earn admiring glances when toting this smart accessory.

Stella McCartney Falabella Woven Faux Leather Sleeve

URL www.stellamccartney.co.uk   Price £280

Fashioned from taupe-coloured leather (the faux variety, the designer being of course a lifelong vegetarian and campaigner for animal rights) with woven back and front panels, the Falabella iPad sleeve is both distinctive and contemporary. The gold-chain trim and non-animal-sourced materials (the soft lining is faux suede) make this item ideal for the affluent iPad owner with a social conscience.
