If you have been using Siri for a while you may be pleased to learn that he has a new voice and that there is a new female voice for the UK Siri.

To switch to the female Siri go to Settings > General > Siri. Then tap Voice Gender and choose Female. Female Siri talks in the same stilted way as a male Siri but we do prefer the female voice.

It's also easier than ever to let Siri know you have finished asking your question. Hold the home button when talking to Siri and release it when you have finished to tell Siri when you have no more to say.

Listen to the new Siri voices in the video below:

This is the biggest Siri update for a while, but from time to time Siri's memory banks get a bit of an update and he (or she) learns some cocky responses to certain questions. Last year, for example, Siri started talking back about Google Glass, and more recently the AI assistant got a bit of a bee in its bonet about the Scarlett Johansson movie Her.

Ask Siri the following questions and expect some ammusing responses. Note that some times you ned to persist and keep asking and you will be rewared with even more hilarity!

Siri versus Her

Ask Siri: "Are you Her"

Siri says "No. She is a fictional construct, whereas I am a virtual entity. But we can still be friends".

Or, if you keep persisting:

"Is that you Joaquin"

Siri may even tell you that her "portrayal of an intelligent agent is beyond artificial".

Or slamming the film for giving artificial intelligence "a bad name".

Siri versus Google Glass

It turns out that Apple's Siri isn't a fan of Google Glass.

Users of Google Glass need to tell their glasses "Ok Glass" in order to trigger them to react to voice-control features. If you say the same to Apple's Siri you'll get some interesting responses,

Say "Ok glass" to Siri, you will get one of six responses:

"Very funny, (name). I mean, not funny 'ha-ha,' but funny."

"I think that Glass is half empty."

"I'm not Glass. And I'm just fine with that."

"Glass? I think you've got the wrong assistant."

"Stop trying to strap me to your forehead. It won't work."

"Just so you know, I don't do anything when you blink at me."

Funny things to say to Siri

The news that Siri was slagging off Google Glass got us thinking about this article that we put together some time ago. We wondered if Siri has any new, fun, responses to things we say. Some of our favourite funny Siri responses are to the following questions:

Q: How many people does it take to screw in a lightbulb

Siri understands the joke and is having none of it and its racist connotations, suggesting that it's an "indeterminate but finite number of others in the indicated social group".

An alternative answer is: "A thousand. One to screw it in, and nine hundred ninety-nine to blog about it."

Q: What Does The Fox Say?

Siri has the answer, according to last year's hit 'What does the Fox say'

Useful things to ask Siri about

There are also a number of more useful things you can ask to Siri.

Siri improves the more you use it and once you begin to use of regularly, you realise just how useful and powerful it is.

Siri also learns names quickly, if you keep repeating them and selecting the correct option from a list. So with just a bit of practice you quickly hurdle the frustration of it attemptint to text, message, or call the wrong person. And if you have relationships added 'mum', 'dad', 'wife', 'husband' and so on, it quickly feels a lot less formal.
