The iPad mini 4 has been a bit neglected by Apple recently, what with the launch of bigger and more powerful iPads over the past two years, but it's still a popular choice among iPad users (ourselves included).
Whether you've just purchased an iPad mini 4 or have treasured yours since it was released in 2015, we've got a case that'll suit you right here in our round-up of the best iPad mini 4 cases.
If you've got an older iPad, or perhaps a newer one, you can see cases for your tablet by following these links:
iPad mini 4 Smart Cover
- RRP: £39
- Buy from Apple
If you want to keep things strictly Apple, then we’d recommend the Smart Cover for iPad mini.
It’s ridiculously easy to use, with a magnetic rubberised spine that clips neatly to the left edge of the device.
Repeated daily removal won’t scratch the metal in any way, and the cover’s two folds mean you can safely stand your iPad to watch videos or lay on a desk to type on-screen.
The microfiber lining also cleans your screen subtly while it’s closed, and also auto-wakes and sleeps the iPad – a typically well thought out case.
iPad mini 4 Silicone Case
- RRP: £59
- Buy from Apple
The Smart Cover protects your screen brilliantly, but it doesn't actually protect the back of the device. For that, you'll need to pair it with the iPad mini 4 Silicone Case.
Apple sells this silicone case separately, and it works with the Smart Cover to give full protection. It’s slightly cheeky asking you to buy to cases to completely protect your tablet, but they’re designed to work well together, meaning this is actually not the best choice to use on its own, as there’s no case up the left-hand side to allow for the smart cover to attach.
Belkin Twin Stripe Folio Case for iPad 4
- RRP: £34.99
This simple but stylish folio case from long time Apple accessory favourite Belkin lets you protect your tablet on the go while acting as a stand for viewing in landscape.
You can access all ports and buttons, and it's easy to pop in and out.
Trident Aegis Signature Case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £29.99
This case manages to meld a professional premium leather look with a rugged feel that’s pleasingly protective, though doesn’t cover the iPad mini’s screen.
The leather portion of the case is on the back, with a solid rectangular piece that kicks back to act as a sturdy one-position stand for when watching videos.
This clings to the back magnetically when not in use and snaps back, keeping what is a hardy case relatively slim.
Maroo leather folio case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £34.95
If the classic leather folio is your style, then the Maroo case is a great choice. Its simple design closes securely with elastic straps over two corners, with your precious iPad held in place in a sturdy rubberised frame.
It has even got a slot for a stylus if that’s how you choose to use your tablet. You can fold back the front flap and create a wedge shape that allows you to either type raised while on a flat surface, or stand up for easy video viewing.
Zagg Slim Book Keyboard Case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £89.99
- Buy from Zagg
The ZAGG Slim Book is a neat backlit keyboard case for your iPad mini that pairs over Bluetooth. ZAGG claims that based on usage of one hour a day, the keyboard’s battery will last an incredible two years, great if you want to transform your iPad into a tiny laptop for daily use with minimal fuss.
The keys are necessarily small, but easy to type with. Your tablet snaps into a plastic sleeve that you pop in and out of the robust, movable hinge - meaning this case is very versatile too, and can be used in laptop or video viewing angles, or removed from the keyboard altogether.
Moshi VersaCover Case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £45
With its minimalist, origami-inspired design the Moshi is one of the best-looking iPad mini cases available. The front cover not only auto-wakes and sleeps your device; it also acts as a foldable stand that can form three different positions for use.
The instructions aren’t the clearest out there, and it took us a while to be happy with the viewing angles, but it does also depend on what surface you’re using the case – if you’ve got a slippery glass desk, you might find the typing angle in particular hard to work with.
STM Bags Dux Case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £49.99
The dux case from STM comes with the assurance that it can be dropped 26 times from 4 feet in a military standard test. Don’t do that if you buy it – but this is an excellently protective case for your highly breakable iPad mini.
Protective yet stylish and available in a rainbow of colours, it has a clever magnetic tab fastening that doubles up as a way to stand your iPad for typing or excessive Netflix consumption. A transparent back shows off your device amongst the rubberised protection on offer.
Twelve South BookBook for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £59.99
Sitting firmly in the corner marked ‘luxury’ is this brushed leather book style case from Twelve South. It’s a fully protective, zip closed case with great attention to detail, from the faux-vintage book spine details to the practical microfiber lining to keep your iPad safe from scratches.
You can snap your tablet down with poppers, or unsnap to stand it up for FaceTime or video viewing. It’s not the most streamlined case, but it looks great and you can even buy matching cases for your iPhone or MacBook.
Griffin Survivor All-Terrain Case for iPad mini 4
- RRP: £44.99
This is the daddy of iPad mini cases – dirt, sand, rain, dust, vibration and shock resistant with a casing design that is three separate layers. You can pick one up from Griffin's official website.
It’s very easy to get your iPad into, and very hard to damage it afterwards. There’s a clear film that lies over the screen but barely affects normal use, and also a rubberised, water tight material over the Home button designed specifically for Touch ID for the iPad mini 4, so you still have usable fingerprint security on your device.
Hinged caps seal all ports yet make them accessible and it comes with a clip-on stand for all your viewing needs.
