The best iPad pro accessories

Both the 9.7 and 12.9-inch iPad Pros are excellent, capable tablets – probably the best out there. But they aren’t sold bundled with some key accessories that ultimately make them near-laptop machines. Here are the best accessories out there for both iPad Pros.

There are pretenders to the throne, but if you want a decent keyboard for either model of iPad Pro that also acts as a case (and wont scratch the screen!) then these are the ones to plump for.

Slim, microfiber-lined and wipeable, you dirty lot; while a tad expensive you wont be disappointed. It’s a vital accessory to use with the iPad Pro, and a shame that Apple couldn’t include it in the price of the tablet. But did you really expect

Once you’ve got the keyboard attached and acting as a cover for the screen when closed, the back of your iPad Pro will still be open to the elements. Apple also sells a silicone case that pairs perfectly with the Smart Keyboard to offer full protection to your tablet.

It’s pricey, there’s no denying that, but if you’ve already gone all in for the iPad and keyboard, you might have to take the hit – so that your iPad doesn’t.

For further case recommendations, here is our round up of the best cases, covers and bags for iPad Pro

Best iPad Pro accessories: Apple Pencil

RRP £79

There’s only one stylus like accessory to consider for the iPad Pros, and it’s the Apple Pencil. Undoubtedly a great feat of technological engineering, you just have to ignore the price and remember this is what makes the tablet unique. It opens up a world of invention for illustrators, photo editors and even humble note taking.

There’s nowhere to clip it however on Apple’s cover accessories, so you may want to check out our round up that includes cases that do have clips.

Best iPad Pro accessories: Logi BASE Charging Stand

RRP £89.95

This is one of our favourite accessories here at Macworld UK, made by Logitech (which is sort of changing its name to Logi). The Smart Connector on the iPad Pros is able to charge the tablet, though Apple only ships them with a Lightning cable. The BASE stand charges the iPad Pro horizontally using the connector, meaning you can easily view videos while charging or even stick it in a convenient place on your desk.

The craftsmanship, as ever, is outstanding and this is definitely a worthy purchase for your iPad Pro.

Best iPad Pro accessories: STM blazer laptop and tablet sleeve

RRP £34.95

There aren’t many dedicated bags for tablets out there, given that they are relatively light compared to traditional laptops and you also don’t always have to carry a charger with you. This slim bag from STM though is a great slim line choice if you want to cart your iPad Pro round on your shoulder – and we have been!

The shoulder strap is detachable and the inside soft lined to put your slab in without scratching. If you also want to carry your laptop round there’s that option, and a third pocket to stick your notebook or other stuff in. If you’ve got the 9.7-inch Pro then the smaller 11-inch bag is for, whereas the 12.9-inch Pro fits best in the 13-inch bag. Just double-check all the dimensions of the bag before you buy.

Best iPad Pro accessories: Adapters

Maybe not first on your list, but you might also want to consider an adapter for use with your iPad Pro, depending what you are doing with it. Two of the most useful are the Lightning AV and Lightning to SD card adapters. The former, when paired with an HDMI cable and a TV projects what’s on your iPad onto your telly.

It can output video, but some apps won’t allow it – so check first whether or not your streaming service of choice allows it! For further streaming solutions, have a look at our sister title PC Advisor’s best media streamers list.

For the keen photographer, a good shout is the Lightning to SD card reader. You can upload photos from your DSLR straight to your iPad Pro for editing, which is enhanced by the Apple Pencil compatibility and host of great apps.
