The iPhone is a great device for recording video clips, but many people end up with lots of clips that they don’t do anything with. This is a shame because the iPhone is a great tool for editing and sharing video. In this article we’ll look at things to do with the video on your iPhone.

Trim the video clips on your iPhone

You should start by trimming your video down to the interesting bits. If you’ve been recording video clips then you normally end up with a lot of spare video at the start, and end, of whatever it is that’s interesting. You can trim video clips direct in the Photos app. Open a video clips and tap the screen to bring up the horizontal scrub bar. At the far left and right of the bar are two black bars with white arrows, drag these inwards to shorten the video clip (they turn yellow to indicate the trimmed area). Tap Trim to reveal Trim Original or Save as New Clips. If you record a lot of video don’t be afraid to choose Trim Original and get rid of the unwanted footage, in the long run you’ll end up with easily navigable collection of short, useful video clips.

Share your shorter video clips by AirDrop

Once you get into the habit of trimming your video clips, you will be able to quickly trim a video on the spot to get a short, neat clip. This is ideal for sharing with your friends using AirDrop. Tap Share and wait for the person to appear in the AirDrop section (they may have to open Notification Centre on their iOS device and tap AirDrop and Choose Contacts Only or Everyone). Tap the icon with their name to share the trimmed video clip with them.

Make an iMovie with your iPhone video clips

Once you have collected a variety of movie clips, and hopefully shortened them to just the important clips you should investigate Apple’s iMovie app. With iMovie you can stitch together video clips with photo zoom effects, add titles, captions, effects and audio to create a home movie. iMovie comes with a collection of themes and templates and you can quickly stitch together movies and trailers.

Quickly edit a movie with Replay video editor for Instagram

If you find making home movies with iMovie too laborious then you should look at another app, like Replay. Replay quickly edits your videos into a fast-paced movie that it then shares on Instagram. With Replay you tap to select clips, choose a style and pick a style and it does all the editing for you.

Send a clip straight to Facebook

Once you have a video trimmed and edited, you should share it with your friends on Facebook. Uploading a video to Facebook couldn’t be easier. Open the clip in Photos and tap Share, and Facebook. Enter a description for the video clip and tap Post.

Make a video with Magisto

If you want to edit a video automatically, but one that’s a little more in-depth than Replay (but less hassle than iMovie) the Magisto is worth looking at. Pick you clips, pick an editing style (such as Adventure or Traveller). Then pick a soundtrack. Magisto edits a whole movie for you.

Add special effects with Game Your Video

There are many apps capable of adding special effects to a video. One of the most recent is Game Your Video. You can add split screen effects, fast forward, slow motion and other special effects.

Create antique movie with iSupr8

If crafting modem movies isn’t your thing, then consider using iSupr 8 to create videos in a more cinematic style.

Get professional with Filmic Pro

If you are enjoying video editing on your iPhone, then consider moving up to a more professional video recording app. There are many attempts to bring industrial quality filming to the iOS platform. One of our favorites is Filmic Pro, which brings 2K recording to iOS.
