You’re here because you have an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, and you can no longer directly plug normal headphones into the phone. Apple ships a pair of Lightning EarPods with the phones, but you may want to use your existing headphones instead, or pick up a new pair with a 3.5mm jack.
Apple includes a Lighting-to-3.5mm adapter with the new iPhone models thankfully, and most of us will be content with that. But if you ever need to replace it, want to buy a back-up, or want to upgrade to an adapter with some additional features, we've rounded up the best iPhone 7 headphone adapters we can find.
Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter
- Buy from Apple
This is the Apple adapter that comes in the box, so you may not need another, but then again it is pretty easy to lose. £9 isn’t too bad a price for an Apple product, even a tiny one like this. If you want a spare, you shouldn’t balk too much at getting this one.
Griffin iTrip Clip
This small Bluetooth clip is an excellent way around the headphone conundrum. It works with any headphones with a 3.5mm jack, and wirelessly transmits music from your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus to your ears.
It charges up via the included micro USB cable and will give you between 4-6 hours playback. Pairing with your phone is easy and means you can charge your iPhone while listening to music wirelessly.
It's a good, affordable way to make existing headphones wireless without forking out for Bluetooth headphones.
Bear in mind though that it won't work with the Lightning connector headphones that comes with the iPhone 7 - it also doesn't come with headphone, despite the picture here.
CONMDEX Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter
Naturally with small accessories like this, there is already a raft of third party adapters. Here is one. It does what the Apple one done and costs less (at the time of writing).
Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar
- Buy from Belkin
This Belkin adapter solves the issue with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus of being able to charge your phone while listening to music using headphones.
Beware though – this doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s just to plug in and charge via Lightning while using the bundled Lightning EarPods. You could always use the bundled Apple adapter to use normal headphones though. But that would be mental. It’s also an expensive accessory.
OnPrim Lightning and Charge Port Adapter
This nifty adapter looks quite like Apple's, but has the advantage of a Lightning charge port too - meaning it's one of the cheapest accessories we've seen for the iPhone 7 so far that also lets you listen to music.
Headphone Lightning Adapter for iPhone 7
- Buy from eBay
Another unbranded but perfectly adequate adapter, this time on eBay and much cheaper than Apple's official version. The design is slightly different and is a good choice, especially if Apple’s sells out.
