Keeping your iPhone dry with a waterproof case

A good iPhone case is essential if you want to keep your iPhone safe. While most iPhone cases keep your iPhone drop and shockproof, they do little to prevent water damage.

This is where a waterproof iPhone case steps in. With a waterproof case you can keep your iPhone safe from splashes, and even take an iPhone into the pool or sea. Even if you don't take your iPhone into the water, a waterproof case offers great protection for when you are down the beach (so it's great for beach bums). Optrix by Body Glove Waterproof Action Camera Case

  • RRP: £89.99

The Optrix waterproof case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s is slightly different to the rest of the cases in our roundup, as it looks to transform your iPhone into an action camera. The case is waterproof down to around 33ft and will protect your phone from 6.1m (20ft) drops, making it pretty durable. The case also features two interchangeable lenses to improve the (already amazing) iPhone camera; a 0-degree low profile lens for general photography, and a 165-degree wide-angle lens for capturing all the action.

The Optrix also features a ‘protective touchscreen membrane’, which the company says will provide you with touchscreen functionality without compromising on protection.

LevinTM waterproof case

  • RRP: £40.99

The LevinTM waterproof case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s is, according to the company, the ideal case for use when surfing, swimming and snorkelling, as the case is waterproof up to 6.6ft underwater. Although with this being said, it’s also dust, shock, snow and dirtproof, which should provide an adequate amount of protection in a variety of situations. The LevinTM waterproof case also features a kickstand, which allows you to use your iPhone hands-free.

Microphone and speaker vents are all fully waterproof, while still being able to pick up audio. It’s easy to set up too – it comes in two pieces and all you have to do is place your iPhone in the middle, then snap the two pieces together.

Mophie juice pack H2PRO for iPhone 6 and 6s

  • RRP: £119.95

Mophie is famed for its excellent quality battery cases for iPhones. Generally considered the gold-standard in power accessories, the company has expanded its juice pack range to the iPhone 6 and 6s, even producing this waterproof version.

Your encased iPhone will survive water immersion up to 1.2m for 30 minutes. It's a tad pricey at a little over a hundred sheets, but if you're after extra power and full on waterproofing, it's definitely worth considering.

Best waterproof iPhone cases: Favolcano waterproof case for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

RRP £10.99
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6 (should also fit iPhone 6s)
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6 Plus (should also fit iPhone 6s Plus)

The Favolcano waterproof case for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is a good option for those that want protection without breaking the bank. The case should be able to survive being submerged in up to 13ft of water, and being dropped from around 13ft, as well as being completely dust, dirt and snow proof. This makes it a perfect companion for those of us that are always damaging our iPhones, and though it can’t be submerged as deep as other cases in our roundup, it should definitely survive a drop in the bath or swimming pool.

Best waterproof iPhone cases: Bessmate waterproof case for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

RRP £39.99
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6 (should also fit iPhone 6s)
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6 Plus (should also fit iPhone 6s Plus)

The Bessmate waterproof case for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is fully sealed, and offers IP68 standard protection for your phone for protection against water, snow, dirt and shock. The case allows you to submerge your iPhone over 6.6ft in water, and along with being able to protect your iPhone from drops up to 6.6ft, the Bessmate case should protect your iPhone in a number of situations. Unlike other cases, the Bessmate features ‘near-perfect’ cutouts for easy access to all functions, including the volume button, charging and headphone ports and the home button.

The case features a front cover with a built-in screen protector that, the company claims, doesn’t affect the touchscreen sensitivity. It also boasts non-permeable membrane covers for the microphone and speaker vents from which sound can be heard and captured but without letting in any moisture.

Vansky waterproof dry bag

  • RRP: £25.99

The Vansky waterproof dry bag isn’t a fitted case, but is instead a waterproof bag that should fit most smartphones (up to 6in), or possibly even a digital camera. The case will protect your iPhone submerged to around 30 meters while still maintaining full touchscreen functionality, making it an ideal companion for diving. It’s also made from eco-friendly TPU that the company claims is more durable and flexible than standard PVC, and also should degrade in soil in only 5 years (compared to 500-1000 years with PVC bags).

It also comes with a lanyard to secure the bag around your neck – because the last thing you want is your iPhone drifting down to the seabed!

OtterBox Preserver case for iPhone 5/5s

  • RRP: £79.95

As with many waterproof cases, the OtterBox Preserver is only available for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s at the moment, but it’s worth keeping an eye out in case they update the range. The OtterBox Preserver is easy to use with a snap assembly. It has two foam cushions inside and OtterBox claims that your iPhone will be fully submergible up to 6.6ft for 30 minutes. This makes it a good option for taking to the beach, as it'll also keep sand out of the iPhone.

JOTO Universal Waterproof Case

  • RRP: £24.99

Unlike other cases, the JOTO Universal fits all kind of devices (it is essentially a waterproof see-through bag that you drop your iPhone into). While it offers no real protection against shock or impact, it is very well sealed against water. And JOTO claims protection up to 100 feet. It comes with a strap so it's good for carrying around a pool or beach, and we think it's good value at the price.

It claims to fit devices up to 5.5 inches in height, which is fine for the iPhone 6 or 6s, but won’t be suitable for the iPhone 6 Plus or 6s Plus.

Griffin Survivor + Catalyst Waterproof Case for iPhone 5/5s

  • RRP: £59.99

The Griffin Survivor + Catalyst is a solid waterproof case for the iPhone 5 and 5s. There is no iPhone 6 model available yet, do not confuse it with the Griffin Survivor for iPhone 6, which is a sturdy case but it lacks the Catalyst waterproof aspects. Griffin claims that it is waterproof to 3 metres with a gasketed design to seal out water, dust, grease and windblown sand. It is also designed to minimize drop impact for 2 metres, so we think it offers good all-round protection.

Best waterproof iPhone cases: Dog & Bone Wetsuit Impact case for iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus

RRP around £80
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6/6s
Get it from Amazon for iPhone 6 Plus/6s Plus

Waterproof, dirt proof, snow proof, shock proof - Dog & Bone has made a rugged case for both sizes of the latest iPhones, and made them very slim at the same time. Full waterproofing protection to IP68 standards (i.e. no water is getting in!) paired with an excellent screen protector makes this one of the best, though not the cheapest, choices for waterproofing your iPhone.

You get full access to all your phone’s ports, and can still take advantage of the unlocking and security functions that the Touch ID fingerprint scanner brings with it.
