lukemb64,

I don't think it's agro to point out that Virgin are useless. They can't even provide me with a reliable cable internet service ( six major outages in 18 months, the most recent 24 hour outage finished yesterday afternoon ). They are famously inept at anything to do with Macs and that attitude can be traced back more than fifteen years from the companies that merged to form Virgin as we now know them.

Personally I prefer to confine suggestions to topics that I have experience of and I know that many others share the same approach. It would appear that hardly anybody here has any experience of that Virgin back-up problem, maybe because we wouldn't touch it with a barge pole - even though it's offered to us for free. If you then feel that the resulting silence makes this a bad forum, then so be it, but I'd rather have a forum where the advice that is given is reliable, than one where unknown people simply make random guesses.

AlanAudio,
I don't mind you having a go at Virgin. I didn't say the forum was bad. My point is just that it wasn't a big deal for someone to moan he didn't get any help on this forum. Whether he is right or wrong, it's not a big deal, people don't need to have a go at him about such a minor issue.

auldain,

My sympathies are with you and, No it is not a good forum where weeks can pass without any reply at all.
This attitude typifies the Mac User forums too.

I propose that "Global Moderator" be incorporated as a pejorative term applied to all numpties who get terminally squinky when ever their imagined status is challenged.

Members make forums.

arpy,

thank you for that insightful first post.

Members do indeed make forums, but some members contribute in a more meaningful way than others.

arpy,

"members make forums". That'll be you then? you should try harder to make your forum a better place instead of criticising yourself.

It is probably worth repeating a note for everyone regarding the term "Global Moderator". The global moderators can edit and delete posts, that is all. They were set up to help MW remove spam posts, and that is what they do. They don't moderate in the traditional forum sense.

If people want to come here and start a fight, then that reflects badly on those people, doesn't it. Biting the hand that feeds is never a good idea.

arpy,

it's worth bearing in mind the fact that Global Moderators are able to read the IP addresses used to post messages.

It's a remarkable coincidence that you and another person posting on this thread under a different name are both based in the Worcester area and using Tiscali.

2.8 billion people out of 7 billion in the world live on less than $2 a day. Find something else more important to get worked up about.

lukemb64,
It is a shame you don't take your own advice
