OK, it's not remotely Mac-related, but maybe somebody has a good idea ....

Does anybody make a mains operated cellphone ?

I have a need for what would normally be served well by a conventional landline, but it's in an area where there is no line, but there is a strong GSM signal. The person using it is easily confused and doesn't properly understand concepts like green button to talk, red button to hang up, or needing to keep it charged up.

What would be ideal would be either something that works like a bog standard line telephone, but operates over GSM, or else some sort of adaptor that receives GSM and has a standard BT socket to plug in a conventional phone.

It's main purpose would be to accept incoming calls and ideally the user would only have to pick up the handset, talk and then put it down again afterwards - just like telephones always used to work. There is no need for any clever features.

Any ideas ?

MacOS10,

it's not an April Fool's gag. It's a genuine request ( which is being repeated after midday, just to make sure ).

AlanAudio,

> "it's not an April Fool's gag."

Heh, sorry, after seeing numerous April Fool hoaxes today I assumed this was another one! Oops, I didn't know such a thing existed - In my defence, I suspect many people didn't!

I think if you'll read it back, it does sound like it's a gag!!

defcom,

thanks for the ideas, they're exactly what I was looking for but I didn't know what term to search for.

MacOS10 - yes I can see what you mean, but I'd like to think that if I were do do an April Fool's gag, it might be a little funnier than that
