Another one for the experts!

I'm about to finish off a 10-min video for my work, showing consumer focus groups in action. It was filmed a couple of weeks ago, using a cheap camcorder (Canon MV600).

On playback, there is an annoying, fairly high-pitched hum which is masking the sound of people's voices - they are perfectly audible when I listen using good quality headphones (so is the hum, btw) but when played on a normal TV the hum is too much for some of the detail of what people are saying. The hum seems to be a direct result of the operation of the camera.

I've tried applying the 'hum remover' filter at differing frequencies, but without success. I've also tried the Equaliser filter, again with no luck. The hum seems to be in the mid-range, so filtering it out may mean cutting out people's voices, too - which I obviously don't want.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

(Running FCP4 on a G4 PowerBook with 512MB RAM. Sorry, this would all be easier to explain if you could hear the hum!)

Stephen Coltrane,

Bias inc have a very effective filter called SoundSoap. Its very easy to use and not too expensive, I think about £60.. maybe a little pricy for a one off but a great tool to have in your kit.

You can download very impressive demos and review from there web site. . go check it out.

glemon,

Thanks for the tip - will follow it up. In the meantime, I have recaptured the footage from the other camera we were using at the session, which has no hum problem.
