New to final cut pro3. I can view the footage from Cam to Viewer in viewer window but even though I set a logging bin and name the new project for new footage the clips go offline. When I try to re connect media to make them online( as mentioned in FCP for dummies book). FCP won't let or doesn't recognise the files. It's driving me mad!!
If I look inside folder on scratch drive. It's got these icons like a fcp Kilobyte files (eg 8kb) like a digislate symbol. Does anyone know how to help me or advise me on a good book for FCP 3 on OSX. I've tried everything I know to sort it but don't know how. ]: ]:

KennyBoy1, I sympathise - but cannot give you an answer - get Rick Young's book "The Easy Guide to Final Cut Pro 3" from Focal Press..........about £15.00 - it's excellent

augenblick,
Thanks for your reply mate. I will check that book out. I must be doing something wrong in the set -up of FCP or logging bin side of FCP. Before I try anything else . I need a book that goes into depth of files for final cut. Thanks again.

KennyBoy1,

It's something simple, no need for books!

FCP4 captures just like AVID.

FCP 3 captures in a crappy way. I guess you are using capture now, or capture clip?

When you do that, once its finished it will pop up a viewer window with the clip it in, which you must then save. I tend to drag the clip from the center of the viewer into the browser window, then make sure you save to the capture scratch disc, or it will have to copy the entire file to the other drive.

If you don't do this the media will simply not be saved!

The failsafe way to capture is by logging the clips first then batch digitising them.

Drop me a mail if you are having problems, but you need to outline every single step you are doing so I can help.
