http://www.apple.com/itunes/100million

All from the States! Suppose it's the law of averages but for some reason I expected this...

Know what I mean?

rolldothome,

Interesting, I think we need our resident Scottish Statistitian to work it out for us. Effectively it took 9 days to download 5m songs. That looks like an astonishing figure to me.

Though looking at the list, I think that most winners have ticked the 'no publicity' box - there's loads missing...

UNLESS the ones not listed are those that sent in emails rather than downloaded.... Now that would be a scandal... only 22 out of 50 were from purchases....

Wish I hadn't bought that '70s throwback track now....

Jaded,

I could have been a bit hasty! The gaps could be all the non US winners, which should appear on UK and other sites tomorrow (when they pull there finger out)

Wish I hadn't bought "Combine Harvester" by the Wurzels

Jaded,

The "last million" appear to have been downloaded within a period of 36 hours, or thereabouts.........

That IS remarkable - no doubt Apple will highlight this in publicity somewhere: popularity, bandwidth, reliability of service etc.. At least there's a golden opportunity to be taken advantage of.

The prize prospects must have produced a spurt to sales too, iGuess?

Wonder what the European % of the final million was?

rolldothome,

Seems very unlikely this just happened by chance. I don't think the UK, Germany and France were even entered. The only other logical possibility would be that the millionth tracks were downloaded when everyone was likely to be sleeping in Europe. However, given the timestamps seem random this isn't the case.

My best guess is that Europe users were excluded. Anything less than 1 in 20 of a random sample is suspect so less than 1 in 50 is extremely unlikely to show this was anything other than a US only competition.

Are the sleuth journalists at MacWorld finding out about this?

Al Bundy,

The UK, France and Germany were specifically included in the terms. With the amount of blanks in the results page I would assume that it's more of a privacy policy issue. In the EU you generally have to opt-in for things like that, and any personal information that is going to be stored in the US has to be specifically and obviously asked for.

Al Bundy,

Some of the milestone 100,000 Tracks were definitley passed while I was wide awake here in the UK!

Only had a couple of flutters myself and never expected to win (I have a beautiful 40 Gb iPod anyway!)

I do find it unbelievable that no-one in Europe won or that they all refused publicity...

Smell a rat?

rolldothome,

Their Lordships Butler and Hutton are on the case now and will confirm that this was all above board and Teflon TB had nothing to do with it.

After all, it seems that TTB has nothing to do with anything...

wetzlar,

Here's another odd one. Yesterday it stated that one of the winners had won by downloading a track by Metric which was free download of the week (and according to the rules inelligable).

Today that has gone from the list! Wonder if the winner was disqualified or what...

Jaded,

Still the list is incomplete and now it is no longer the main feature on the Apple site but a small link! Soon it will vanish completely...

Will we ever know? Anyone know a European citizen that won anything?

Still no list of European winners!
