Anne Ring,

Not sure which icon you mean. What did it look like and what did it do when you clicked on it?

Anne Ring,

I think that's just a short-cut to the Apple OSX web-site feedback page. (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong). It's so long since I trashed mine that I've forgotten all about it.

It's not the sort of thing that you'll be using very often. It doesn't actually do anything important.

Don't worry about it.

And, no, they're not related.

Anne Ring,

This is just a web link to

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

It doesn't matter if you have it or not, really!

To get it back, go to the above link in Safari, then click and hold the apple icon in the address bar (next to the http and drag it down to the Dock, where it was before.

Jaded,

It will even change to the @-on-a-spring icon.

Anne Ring,

Go to

Hard Disk/System/Library/CoreServices/Help Viewer

Drag this to the dock and you should be fixed.

wetzlar, Had in fact tried that. Can open from the Dock but when I try from the finder it opens and then closes don't suppose it matters as there is a way round it just a bit slower. Anyway thanks.

Anne Ring,

I know I tend to say this as a first step for just about everything, but have you tried booting the Install CD & running Disk Utility repair disk & repair permissions?

Cynic,

this is a great suggestion, and through the help of people reading these forums, and having similar problems with the Help Viewer as Anne, running Disk Utility solved the problem

antonygarner,

WillG4PB had to go a bit deeper when he had problems, but I'm glad that some have been solved.
