Hello All,

I've just installed logic express 7 on my powerbook and have purchased a faster external firewire HD. I was wondering if I should install Logic on the external drive to fully take advantage of the faster disk speed, or just copy my Logic files to it?

I think for best results you should keep Logic on your startup disk and use the firewire disk for audiofiles.

Wildman,
try to install OS on your removable HD,and after that install Logic. You can use your removable HD as Startup disc(Turn power button while holding the optional key and choose to start from Removable HD)

That could be useful to keep the bootable OS and Logic clean without any utilities, widgets, apps, etc. that might consume cpu and other resources. You can then boot off the internal drive for normal stuff, and boot off the external for pure music production and editing.

However, you might want to keep an eye on the performance. I also recommend SuperDuper if you want to easily make cloned copies of the system onto other drives. I have an external drive partitioned with one partition being a clone of my main system. .When an update comes along (eg 10.4.5) then I clone my main disk first, then apply the update to the internal drive and if it causes problems - bring back the previous version from the clone back to the internal drive.
