I remember the Shamen once released a cd with elements of one of their hits on in WAV format so you could remix their track to your hearts content. Have any other artists done this? And is there a site where you can download these kind of released track elements legally (or *cough* illegally)

viper2,

have you tried Googling, using the following keywords ?

+Shamen + WAV

Try it with other likely artists.

I worked on a Japanese programme many years ago where we went to a studio and specially recorded riffs and other elements with the Brand New Heavies. They were placed on a web site and viewers were asked to re-mix a new arrangement and add an original element of their own. The winner won loads of home studio gear.

I thought it was a great idea for a competition. Those recordings might still be on-line somewhere. If I remember correctly the programme was commisioned by Fuji and was called 'Revolution 8' … but any text will probably be in Japanese.

Note to anybody who doesn't know about searching -

The plus signs ensure that only a page with Shamen and WAV will be found.

If you also found that a lot of results were for something like a bloke called Kevin Shamen, you could add an excluding function by adding - Kevin. The minus sign will eliminate those matches.

viper2,

This has been done many times now.
The first I came across was Moby on his "Feeling So Real" single which had tracks to remix "Everytime You Touch Me" for a competition.

Currently Jesus Jones have the individual tracks available for their Culture Vulture single and are posting the submitted remixes on their website here
