If I shove an audio CD with .aiff files into the drive iTunes will sometimes allow me to add tracks to the library and sometimes will flag up a message saying my iTunes directory permissions are wrong. It is seems to be arbitrary and I doubt it's to do with copyright protection. I've created aiff files myself using Amadeus and met the same blockage. Please can anyone help and explain ? Thank you. - Paul

paulniem,

my guess is that you're experiencing a permissions problem on the file system rather than a specific iTunes problem.

I assume that you've already repaired permissions on your drive.

If you have an external hard drive, you could try consolidating your entire collection to a folder on that drive and either always running iTunes from there ( which is what I do ), or erasing the original tracks and folders and then copying them back again.

If you need to know more about how to do this, ask again.

Hopefully that would sort the permissions for you without you needing to ferret about trying to work out what was going wrong.
