I purchased a macbook Pro from Regent Street in January - 1 week later the power button had sunk in, i have never heard of this kind of problem before - it still worked, but looked bloody awful and i was worried it would get worse etc After speaking to a various chain of command at the apple shop (the first person explained in a beautiful happy american voice that i should call apple support).. nonsense. I finally got a replacement laptop from the shop.
Two months later my second macbook pro has develped the same fault but only worse (i press the power button on and off at least twice a day -It's hardly not wear and tear!! Plus my network card has become faulty and i also receive a world/globe item upon startup. I called Apple support and the fault/s were logged - I was advised to take it to micro Anvika to arrange repair (the nearest apple service centre near to where i work) - I took it in and was informed that i would have to wait 3 weeks for them to repair it!! The chap also explained that this was the quickest time compared to other service centres in the west end!!
I work in IT and have had plenty of PC laptops fixed under warranty over the years and all of them have been collect and return and returned within 7 day's.
I had a Powerbook a few years back which developed a fault - Apple did a collect and return within 7 days..
So why have things changed? Are they more concerned with Ipod, Iphone and other money making items they have totally neglected their core products??
Thanks for letting me off load my steam. cheers Star
This topic has come up before on a number of occcasions &, generally-speaking, most people feel similar to you about it. It's all very well Apple saying: "bring faulty Macs to an Apple Store", etc., but for many people that just isn't very convenient.
If the repaired Mac needs to be picked up later...that's two round trips & far too time-consuming for some people. People who buy Apple Care deserve better, ie. "collect & return". Hopefully Apple will address this in future.
