Step 1 of 7: Intro

Word processing software doesn’t have to be dull and boring – something that Pages proves every time you launch it. This powerful app allows you to quickly and easily produce conventional word processing documents, but it also has a hidden arsenal of tools for helping you become more creative.

There’s a collection of Apple-designed templates that kick-start the creative process, including everything from letters and reports through to flyers, cards and posters. Documents can be customised to suit your requirements, or you can simply start from scratch and call upon the collection of fonts, shapes and multiple formatting options as you need them. There are tools for writing and editing text, along with a sophisticated array of layout and design options, including 3D bar and pie charts.

When you’re finished with the production process, Pages allows you to export the finished item in formats such as Word documents or PDFs. Work can also be shared with ease and printed using AirPrint, meaning the app provides you with a powerful one-stop creativity shop on your mobile device.

Step 2 of 7: Step 1: Formatting Fun

Pages is a powerful word processor that makes it easy to style text. Elements on the page can be selected and formatted depending on your requirements; from choosing simple size and font types through to more decorative options. The slide-down formatting bar makes the process even simpler.

Step 3 of 7: Step 2: Decorative touch

That same flexibility can be applied to images too, and photos from the Camera Roll can be placed on your document and formatted as needed. Drag-and-drop functionality means you can easily move images into position, and these can also be scaled, rotated or resized as needed.

Step 4 of 7: Step 3: Shape shifter

If you need extra flourishes, then there’s a whole array of options for adding shapes to your design. You can insert squares, circles, stars or whatever fits the bill, and the formatting tools can then be used to match the style of your other page elements, including borders, shadows and so on.

Step 5 of 7: Step 4: Design options

It’s the three small toolbar tabs up in the top right-hand corner that really add to the creative power of Pages. Inside here there’s a wealth of styling options that can be applied to any of your page elements. There are also useful design options such as placing one image behind another.

Step 6 of 7: Step 5: Chart attack

Pages has a library of charts that can be added to your document. You can choose from either 2D or 3D designs, which can be manipulated or edited to match both the style and formatting of your composition. Charts can also be scaled to fit a specific area and the data edited as needed.

Step 7 of 7: Step 6: Helping hand

A powerful collection of productivity tools are located at the top right, allowing you to share and print, find specific content, edit your document setup, and also adjust basic settings and preferences in Pages itself. And if you’re getting stuck, there’s a handy help option, too.
