How to make an iPhone or iPad case: What you'll need

The materials for this design are miminal but they're probably not things you'll have lying around the house. The first is a piece of felt long enough to fold over and cover your phone. Next is a glue gun. These are very handy and can be bought in lots of art shops or even Rymans for around £15. You'll also need a small bit of velcro to secure the top flap of the case. Then it's a pair of scissors, marker pen, ruler, and any scrap pieces of material you might have that can be used to decorate the case.

How to make an iPhone or iPad case: Putting it all together

Start off by placing your iPhone on the felt (or fabric of your choice) and folding up the lower part of the material so that it covers around three quarters of the device. Make sure to leave a small area either side of the handset so you'll be able to apply the glue.

When you're happy with the width of the case (remembering to check that the top flap folds over and covers the iphone completely, with a little room to affix the velcro fastener), mark where you need to cut the material.

Now cut your cloth accordingly.

Now use the glue gun to stick the felt, creating a pouch for your phone. Be careful while you do this as the tip of the gun gets very hot.

Hold the pieces together for a minute or so until the bond is secure. Now you have the main part of the case completed.

Next up is creating the fastener. This is done by folding over the top flap, marking where the velcro should go on the two pieces, then sticking them on.

For some finishing touches you can also glue (or stitch) material onto the front and back of the case. It's your design, so do whatever pleases your artistic desires.

That's it. All done. Now your iPhone or iPad is safe from scratches and light drops, as well as declaring your personal tastes to the world. Just remember to turn the glue gun off.
