Despite some criticism over pricing and potential limits on so called "unlimited" data downloads, Orange Apple iPhone sales look to have a bright future.

"Orange UK had sold more than 30k iPhones, smashing what we believe is the previously published first day sales records for a phone in the UK!," Orange's Conor wrote on his Twitter feed shortly after launch.

Conor Maples, who works in the comms team at Orange UK, has used his Twitter feed - @ConorfromOrange - in recent weeks to answer and clarify points raised by potential Orange iPhone customers. The iPhone went on sale at Orange stores on Tuesday 10th, some opening at 7 am.

Conor also revealed on Tuesday the Orange Wednesdays iPhone application was also proving a hit with customers. "Our Orange Wednesdays app has gone to the top slot in the Entertainment Category, & hit 2nd place in the free apps chart on Apple App Store."

The application combines the latest film reviews and trailers with up to date info on what's on, where films are showing, information on how to get there and the ability to redeem the 2 for 1 Orange Wednesdays cinema voucher on your Orange iPhone

Available from the Apple iTunes App Storee, Orange Wednesdays is free and requires the iPhone 2.2.1 Software Update or later.

Last week, Conor defended the Orange iPhone monthly 750 MB download limit placed on users. "We have had iPhone in other European countries for a while now & research shows the average user uses less than 200mb per month," Conor Tweeted.

Reacting to claims that Orange may ban or limit use of online streaming services such as BBC iPlayer, Spotify, as well as popular sites such as Facebook, Conor added: "…I can confirm that popular streaming services will not be banned for iPhone users."

The iPhone is now available in all 402 UK Orange stores, its online shop, telesales channels, and its Orange HMV concessions, as well as through Apple Retail Stores, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and other selected high street partners. Orange claims to be "the UK‘s biggest 3G network, covering more people than any other."

Orange has more than 17 million customers in the UK, with 16.11 million active mobile customers and approximately 900,000 fixed broadband customers.

That's a shame, I was hoping a slow weekend of sales would force them to buck up their offers and get in the game, sadly they will be sat nice and confident over these sales.

considering 250,000 registered an interest, 30,000 isn't that impressive. Will be interesting to see figures for the next month.

On the first day 30,000 customers for an iPhone didn't want to be on O2.
