The iPhone 5 will be announced at a special Apple event on 4 October, according to a report.
The All Things Digital blog claims that sources close to the situation have named Tuesday 4 October as the day the iPhone 5 will be shown off to the world.
The sources also said that Apple planned to make the device available in the weeks after the media event.

The event is also significant as it will be Tim Cook taking to the stage, the report states, rather than Steve Jobs, who recently stood down as CEO of Apple.
October fits in nicely with previous rumours we've heard - last week, 9to5Mac said 7 October while an O2 customer service representative claims 21 October.
However, some sources say that there won't be an iPhone 5 this year while others say that there will be two new iPhones.
As for the iPhone 5 itself, we're expecting an elongated Home button, larger screen and A5 - or possibly even an A6 - processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The iPhone 4S - which could be launched too - is likely to be largely similar to the iPhone 4.
So who to believe? Well, if the report turns out to be correct, we'll know for sure in less than two weeks' time.

iPhone 5 will be launched 4th October, no, 15th October, no wait... Next year only the iPhone 4GS this year, no wait a sec it'll be out at the end of September, but Apple are experiencing manufacturing difficulties, so it'll be out next year. No 15th October...
Am I the only one who just doesn't care.... It'll come out when it comes out. Possibly thinner or bigger, same shape or tear shaped. It'll just be a phone a bit faster than the iPhone 4, possibly with something unexpected like a Pico projector or not... but ultimately just a phone.
