Speaking at Apple’s earnings call on Tuesday, Tim Cook said that combining a MacBook and an iPad would never work. However, a new product launched yesterday that enables users to do just that.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook believes that combining the MacBook and iPad would be like combining a toaster and a fridge: “Those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user,” he said.

However, for those of you that like the idea of an iPad-MacBook, you might be interested in the Brydge, which “simply transforms your iPad into a laptop worthy of Apple,” according to the product’s designer.

Despite Cook’s dismissal of such device, Brydge’s designer, Brad Leong, wrote: “The idea of turning your iPad into a high quality laptop seemed obvious to us and we were shocked when we could not find any accessory that accomplished this.”

The Brydge is made from aluminium, has a keyboard, and customers can choose to have stereo speakers built in to the device. It connects to the iPad with a patent pending hinge.

At the time of writing, the Brydge has almost 400 backers on its Kickstarter project page, which only launched yesterday, so Tim Cook’s analysis that the iPad and MacBook don’t go together is clearly not something everybody agrees with.

iOS and Mac OS convergence? may the Lord preserve us from such an abomination! In my view MacOS has already moved too far in that direction. Ease of use yes, loss of functionality no! It's a toaster that tries to make ice cubes.
