Microsoft seems to be on a roll stoking the Mac versus PC fire right now.
Speaking at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner has claimed that Apple's claim that we are in the post-PC era is wrong. According to Microsoft we are in the PC+ era.
The company is currently promoting the launch of it's Surface tablets, unveiled at the end of June.
Turner said: “They've talked about it being the post-PC era, they talk about the tablet and PC being different, the reality in our world is that we think that's completely incorrect."
Instead, Turner thinks we should be talking about the PC+ era. In which all devices use one unified OS, such as is the case with Microsoft's Surface. Surface will run a complete version of the company's upcoming Windows 8 platform (although there is also a version that will run a stripped-down down ARM-centric Windows RT).
And, of course, Windows 8 will be at the centre of this new era for the PC plus, according to Microsoft, reports The Verge. "We believe with a single push of a button you can move seamlessly in and out of both worlds. We believe you can have touch, a pen, a mouse, and a keyboard," said Turner.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has already made his views clear about the convergence of PC and tablet computing that Microsoft is hanging its new direction on. During the second quarter conference call back in April he said: “You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but you know, those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user."
Microsoft's new Surface, a line of 10.6-in. tablets that will run the company's impending operating systems - the tablet-centric Windows RT and the more traditional Windows 8 - pose little threat to Apple's iPad market dominance, according to experts.

Of course, it's quite easy for a company that has a zero presence in the smartphone industry to talk about PC+ as they only make products that can run the Full Windows Monty. Which means they will never have anything smaller than the Surface.
Talk is cheap.
